Just as an individual’s personal credit rating is very important, this is also something that is true for a businesses credit rating as well. If you own a new business and you are just starting to get some credit established for your company, you will need to know the important differences there are between personal credit cards and that of business credit cards.

When you decide that you would like to get a credit card for your business it is important that you are receiving a business credit card and not a personal credit card. There are a variety of different companies that will allow you to get a credit card with your business name on it, but they will then use your personal credit history when you are applying for the card. Of course if you are trying to establish credit for your new business, these particular cards will not be of much benefit to you, as it will only affect your personal credit and not the credit history that you are trying to build for the company that you own.

One of the biggest benefits that many business owners enjoy when they have a business credit card for their company is the fact that these cards allow you to keep all of your personal finances and your business finances completely separate. These types of cards also make it very convenient for being able to track specific purchases that are made within the company, and you will have a detailed record of all of the transactions that have been made on the cards. This can also make the bookkeeping within a company quite a bit easier to maintain.

If you have not established any credit for your particular business yet, another type of credit card that you may need to get is a secured business credit card. These types of credit cards require that you pay a specified amount down on the card before you are able to make any transactions with them. After the specified amount has been paid then they can be used just as any other type of credit card. The initial amount that you pay towards the credit card will be kept in the event that you were to default on the credit card payments. When a company is just starting out and has not established a line of credit yet, the secured credit cards are very helpful in being able to do this.

If you are thinking of applying for a business credit card for your company, it can be very helpful if you would use the advantages that are available on the Internet. You can simply go online and research the variety of different web sites that offer business credit cards. It would also be a huge benefit for you to compare the various fees that may pertain to each card, and you will also need to compare the interest rates that are being offered on each specific card that you are checking in to.

It is no huge secret that credit cards can cause a mountain of problems when it comes to credit card debt. Many times individuals will get caught up in the enjoyment they get from the freedom that can be found when they are shopping with credit cards, and this can end up causing a heap of financial problems in a very short amount of time. One major reason that individuals begin to get smothered under credit card bills that can easily pile up is they get into the habit of only paying the minimum amount owed on their credit card bills. This can result in the feeling that you are only spinning your wheels with a balance that never seems to go anywhere except up. You should always pay more than the minimum payment and if at all possible you should try to keep the balance paid off each month. Another problem can arise when you keep a large amount of credit available on your credit cards. If you have a large credit line open, this can keep you from being able to secure a future loan on the automobile or new home, or any other purchase that you have wanted to make. Keeping several credit cards open for that ‘just in case’ occasion can also make it too easy to use your credit cards, and the result of this can many times end up in credit card debt before you realize what has happened.

A high interest rate is another problem for a large number of people. You should always pay close attention to the interest rate you are receiving on your credit cards. Many individuals take advantage of the benefit to be had in transferring their credit card balance to one that offers a lower interest rate. This can be very helpful as long as you are paying more than the minimum payment each month.

Small businesses can benefit a great deal in using credit cards if they have several employees who will need the freedom to make certain purchases, such as gasoline for company vehicles, or even automobile repairs. Making sure that you continuously pay the balance of the credit cards will also help to build your company’s credit line. If you do not keep a close watch on purchases made however, it can also result in the misuse of the credit cards.

If used properly credit cards can help to build your credit and if they are misused, they can ruin your credit. If you will take the time to follow a few simple guidelines, it can help to keep you on track with your credit card purchases.

•	The credit cards that you plan to use are the only ones that you should keep
•	Always pay more than the minimum balance, and when possible pay the balance in full each month
•	Keep close track on every purchase made on the credit cards and do not use them unless it is necessary
•	Make sure that you are paying the lowest interest rates possible

Almost all of us are aware that credit cards can do a lot of harm to people’s credit rating and put you in a financial mess very quickly, but when used properly you can enjoy the freedom of using the credit cards when needed, and be able to build a good credit rating at the same time.

There are many individuals who find that you just do not have the extra time for managing their own finances, or you could run in to a particular situation that requires the services of an experienced financial planner. When times such as these do arise, it is extremely important to know the things you should avoid, and things that you should look for when you need a professional financial planner to help you in managing your personal finances.

If you will be sure to follow the helpful steps below, your search in being able to find the perfect financial planner for your situation will go a whole lot smoother.

You will need to decide exactly what it is that you will want from your financial planner before you begin your search in finding one that is appropriate for your needs. Each of these professionals have different areas of expertise that they specialize in. Knowing your particular needs can be extremely helpful when it is time to begin searching for a knowledgeable financial planner.

One of the first things you should do on your quest to finding a financial planner would be to talk to your friends and family members. They can often be very helpful in being able to refer you to one that they know and trust. Trust is one of the most important factors into building a successful and good working relationship between yourself and your financial planner.

When you have chosen a few financial planners that you think will work well in being able to help you with your money matters, you can make an appointment for a meeting of introduction. Generally, reputable financial planners will not charge their clients for this meeting. An introductory meeting can offer you the advantage of being able to discuss your needs and ask any questions that you may have. Making use of these meetings can be very beneficial in making the determination of the financial planner that will work best for you.

There are three different methods that different planners will use to be compensated. It is very important for you to ask questions and find out which method they prefer. The most common form of being paid is a fee based on commission. As you purchase investments, the planner will receive a certain percentage of a portion of the cost of the investment.

Another common form of compensation is to be paid by a flat fee. This can be either by an hourly rate, or by a flat fee that is agreed upon, regarding the financial plan they will be compiling.

The third form of compensation that is becoming more popular than it used to be, is where you will be charged an annual fee that is based on a percentage of the assets that have been invested with them. You might also be offered a combination of these three forms of payment that is expected.

Finally, after all of these have been done, it will be extremely important for you to be able to trust and feel comfortable with the financial advisor you have chosen. After all, you will be entrusting very important information regarding your finances to their care.

There are a large number of individuals every single day who are looking towards the benefits they can take advantage of, by learning to manage their finances better. In this day and age when prices of almost everything we buy, from food to gasoline, seems to continuously rise, now is the time to get your finances in line.

Many people are not even aware that there are numerous different computer software programs that are made specifically for helping them to manage their finances. These can be very useful, and they can save a considerable amount of time that is normally spent on this grueling task.

When you take advantage of some of the many different programs that are available, you will be able to say goodbye to the endless boxes that are filled with receipts that you have saved, stack after stack of endless bills that have yet to be paid, your calculator, pencils, and scratch paper that is filled with calculations you have to be sure and remember.

Personal finances software can be very beneficial in keeping your complicated records in order, such as with various bills that you have, all of your different bank account records, investments that you have made, various funds that you have received through the month, and various funds that you have paid out throughout the month. Personal finance software can be very useful in keeping each of these better organized for you.

Many of these programs will also allow you to separate different areas of your finances into specific categories. They can track investments that you have made, and separate your savings accounts from your checking accounts at the same time for you.

Instead of having to sit for countless hours at the kitchen table, as you go through your bank ledger and adding transactions, or as you figure your bank statement, wouldn’t it be a whole lot easier to simply input each transaction or deposit that you have made into the program. As long as you do not forget to add in each deposit, along with all of the expenditures you have made, your checkbook will automatically be balanced for you. That alone will save you a tremendous amount of valuable time that you could be spending doing other more enjoyable things, like being with your family.

Creating a budget is another beneficial and very important part of managing your finances wisely. There are several of the personal finance software programs that you can purchase that will also create a budget for you. The software uses the information that you key in to the program, to compute a budget. This is an invaluable advantage that every individual could benefit a great deal from.

In order to better have an idea of exactly where all of your money is going, and how much of it you can save, you should take advantage of one of the many useful software programs that are on the market today. They can certainly make managing your finances a whole lot simpler, and they can save you a tremendous amount of time.

There are many times when an individual who is just starting a business, will not have a long line of credit history that is already established for that particular company. Then, when they choose to open up a business credit card, the credit card company will want to have more information to be able to determine approval by using the personal credit history of the individual that is applying for the business credit card. By doing so, the credit card company is better able to determine any credit risk that may or may not be involved.

When the credit card company uses your personal liability as a basis for approving the business credit card, it helps to protect them in the event that the business was unable to re-pay the balance on the card. This would allow them to then be able to invoke the agreement that was made using the personal liability so that they are able to collect the funds that are owed.

Using personal liability can be very helpful, but it can also be very harmful. It can be advantageous as far as being able to receive a business credit card you’re your business when it is lacking a sufficient amount of credit that is needed to receive a business credit card. However, it can also be harmful to your personal credit line. If for whatever reason your business was unable to make the proper payments on the card, not only will it harm the credit line of your business, but it will also harm your personal credit line. It is very important to stay on top of any funds owed when taking out a business credit card using personal liability.

One advantage that many credit card companies will offer is that you are generally able to remove your personal liability from the agreement after a certain amount of time. After your business has shown that it was sufficiently able to stay in good standing, make the necessary payments on time and hold up to the agreement made, you can then remove your personal liability from the business credit card agreement.

The use of a business credit card can be very helpful when you want to keep your business and your personal finances completely separated. You can find yourself in a big mess very quickly if your business and your personal expenditures were not kept separated. Detailed billing summaries that you will receive from the business credit card company will be extremely helpful to you for the purposes of bookkeeping. You will quickly and easily be able to see each individual purchase that is made from the card. If you have more than one card that you have issued to different employees, you will also be able to determine different purchases that were made on each individual card.

The use of a business credit card can be very helpful to any business, but it will be to your advantage to do the necessary research that is available before applying for your business credit card.

You have more than likely seen an advertisement or two, or twenty, concerning the large selection of rewards that are offered from various credit card companies when you make the choice of charging your purchases to the credit card you open with their particular company. The idea of being able to earn cash back and other types of rewards is something that is very appealing to a large number of us.

There are a large amount of several different types of credit card companies that offer their customers some very appealing awards. There are even some credit card companies that offer cash back awards to their customers, simply for the purchases that you make with the use of their credit card. Rewards that are available for you to earn when you make a charge transaction on certain credit cards include items such as airline flight rewards, free gas rewards, free hotel stays, and many others.

By offering their customers these exciting reward points, the credit card companies are actually creating more cash flow into the economy.

When you are trying to decide which credit card will fit your needs the best, and one where you will be able to earn the most reward points on, or cash back, there are a few things you will want to consider.

One of the most beneficial things you should consider is choosing a credit card that you will earn the most rewards on, for purchases you make the most often. If you are earning rewards on items you buy frequently, you will be able to accumulate the reward points a lot easier. There is perhaps nothing that can be more enjoyable than having the opportunity of being able to earn rewards or cash back, while you are making necessary purchases for you and for your entire family.

There are also several other advantages that many of the credit card companies offer to their customers along with the rewards points and cash back earnings you can receive. Many companies will offer discount coupons or gift certificates, travel insurance, purchase protection, auto rental insurance, extended warranty coverage, discounted airline tickets, and lost luggage insurance.

There are some rewards that are offered that sound extremely appealing, but if you will not be making enough purchases to receive the rewards, it won’t be very beneficial to you. Just because something sounds very good, does not always mean it is a good deal if you will not be able to enjoy its benefits.

Take advantage of the World Wide Web and browse through all the many different credit card companies that are available, who are offering some type of rewards or cash back to their customers. If you will take the necessary time that is needed to research the various cards that are available, you will be able to better determine which of the credit cards will be better suited to your individual needs and purchases.

If you own a business and you are contemplating applying for a business credit card, you will find that there are many useful advantages you will be offered. It can be very beneficial for both the small and the large business to have a business credit card that is made specifically for business needs and purposes.

There is a wide range of different business credit cards that will offer the business owner many great discounts to shop at other businesses. Many times you will be able to save as much as 10% when you take advantage of these special discounted offers and shop at the various stores that offer you a discount. This can be very beneficial on items you need for your business.

Having a business credit card can be a great way to earn a large amount of rewards for your company. There are many card companies that are offering a reward system on air flight points that you can receive with each purchase. With the high prices of gasoline today, this can be a great way to be able to continue enjoying your traveling excursions and be able to save money all at the same time. Generally you will earn a specific number of points for each purchase that you make using your card. When enough air flight points have been accumulated, you will be able to redeem them on the flight of your choice. Earning free flight points can be very exciting and useful!

With choosing a business credit card you will be able to enjoy a lower interest rate than those offered with a personal credit card. Normally the interest rates you are offered will fall somewhere between 9% and 15%. There is a lot lower risk involved for the credit card companies with businesses, so they are able to offer substantially lower rates to their customers.

If you run a large business, a business credit card can also offer great advantages to your employees. Depending on what specific employees needs may be, you have the advantage of being able to set each individual limit on the amount they have available on their card.

You normally have the benefit of being offered a much higher credit line with a business credit card, than that of a personal credit card. This can be extremely beneficial to businesses that will need a large amount of funds available to them from day to day transactions.

If you are looking into the many advantages that can be offered to your business by using business credit cards, it would be to your advantage to find out all the information you can on each particular credit card company and the rates and fees they have to offer. With so many different companies that are available today, there is a wide range of different rates, fees, discounts, rewards, and savings you will be able to benefit from. Be sure to compare each of these with each company before you apply for your business credit card.

As with any type of credit card that you might be applying for, one of the first important steps that you will want to do is to make a comparison on the many different business credit cards that are available today. By doing so, this will ensure that you will be receiving just the right card that will work best with your particular company, and one that will offer you the most advantages.

In making sure that you know exactly what you should compare on each of the different credit cards that are available is a big step in getting closer to receiving the right business credit card for your company.

Almost all cards, and even those that are business credit cards seem to be offering some type of rewards or rebates to customers who make purchases with their cards. This is one advantage you might want to compare between each card that is available and see which one offers the bonus flight miles, gift cards, or cash back rewards.

Because of the significant difference between the two, one important thing you need to compare would be whether the business credit card you choose will be earning a variable APR or if it will be on a fixed APR. The difference you will end up paying back can be a large amount in funds.

As you are probably already aware, the business credit card that you choose will more than likely come different types of fees, such as the fee per card and the company fee. You will want to make a comparison between each company and find out if you will also be charged an annual fee, as some companies do not charge this fee to their customers.

There are many individuals who are learning the art and enjoying the advantages of making balance transfers. Doing so can mean a significant amount in savings on the amount of money you will be responsible for paying back. When you are considering doing a balance transfer, it is important to question if you will be charged any fees for this type of transaction on your business credit card.

In almost every transaction we make, whether it is in our checkbook or on that is made on our business credit card, there will be finance charges that are applied. One important question you will want to learn is if whether or not a daily balance will be used to determine the finance charge.

When any company makes the decision of allowing employees to hold a business credit card, there is always a percentage of liability that is involved. It is too easy for employees to misuse the cards inappropriately, to not make sure that you have some type of protection that will be covering your business. If you are a business owner and you plan to allow employees to use a business credit card, it is important for you to find out if your business will be protected by any unauthorized charges made on the card.

As you can see, there are several different factors that you need to take into consideration before you make the final decision on which business credit card is the right one for you and your particular needs.

There are always going to be people who suffer from having bad credit. Some of these people will take great care to go through the necessary steps of improving their credit. Then, there are those who will go to great lengths to hide from the black marks caused by acquiring bad credit.

The black marks that result from having bad credit can be caused from various reasons. Many times people are unable to make timely payments on loans they have taken out. These late payments will eventually cause your credit rating to suffer. Missing payments all together will quickly add a negative rating to your score as well.

Is it possible to hide from having bad credit?

Sure it is. Buy a telephone answering machine so you can filter the phone calls you receive. This will ensure those menacing bill collectors who are trying to dip into your finances never catch you.

I know you think that no-one will notice, but there are several people who have tried to sneak in a relative’s social security number when hooking up electricity, cable, or other household utility bill. Is this illegal? You bet it is and it is definitely NOT recommended!

You can always just ask close friends or a relative to let you put items you are wanting, or are in need of, in their name so you won’t have to worry with the hassles of negative credit causing you to miss out on an exciting purchase.

Now let a few years go by and ask yourself if all the effort you put into hiding your bad credit was worth it in the long run.

Eventually, no matter what you do or how hard you try hiding from the woes of having bad credit, it IS going to catch up with you sooner than you might think. It is much better, and so much easier to go ahead and face your credit issues that you are having, as soon as you realize that there is a problem. If you will simply take the necessary steps to improve your credit rating, it will ensure that necessary items can be purchased with a much smoother transaction.

If you are faced with some type of disaster that can happen at any time, you would not want the bad fortune of having terrible credit be the brick wall that stood in front of you. This could keep you from being able to make very important and necessary purchases or loans. More times than not, many individuals simply do not have a large amount of cash on hand, that is required to take care of emergencies that can happen. Then they are faced with the need to take out a loan. This would be impossible unless you took the necessary steps of clearing up bad credit.

In the long run, you can rest a lot easier and more peaceful if you will take the extra time and effort it requires to erase the black marks that are left behind from bad credit. The process is much more rewarding than having a poor credit rating waiting behind every corner, ready to haunt you.

My goodness have you looked into the various credit card choices that are available today? This one may have a low interest rate, but a ridiculous annual fee, and that one may have no black out dates for air travel, but can only be used every third Wednesday of the month. Or what about the offer you hear – that it offers cash back on specific purchases – but what the heck are those specific purchases anyway?

The credit card choices available today can be so confusing to the average person, so how does one figure out the best credit card to get? If you do an online search of the words credit cards, you will get more responses than you could realistically look at in weeks.

In order to figure out which of the multiple credit card choices that available is the best one(s) for you, first you should probably have a good idea of what your credit rating is. If you do not know, you can easily get this information from any of the major credit rating companies. This can be accomplished in one of two ways, either request it and pay the fee they ask or apply for credit and if your request is denied, the company that denied you will send you a form that will state which one of the major credit rating companies denied you – and they have to send you a free credit report. Knowing before applying for credit is usually your best option.

After you know what your credit score or FICO® Score is, then you can take the time to decide which credit cards you are eligible for. For the purpose of this discussion, we will imagine you have limited to good credit. There are still multiple options that are available for you. Before you begin your search, ask yourself what benefits are important to you. If you are a frequent flyer, especially now with fuel prices what they are and airfare increasing by the day, frequent flyer miles may be critical for you. However, if you do not travel often or fly ever, then maybe earning cash credits, the interest rate on unpaid balances or even a lower annual fee may be the best benefit for you.

Regardless of what your preferred benefits may be, there is a credit card choice out there for you. Remember to pay attention to the small print. Most importantly, understand the entire fee structure including the annual payments, late fees, as well as the interest rate.

Today’s volatile real estate market is making some individuals weary about investing in real estate. With the market in what some are calling a freefall – is this really the time to purchase real estate for your investment portfolio?

Foreclosures are up, interest rates are down, and renters are innumerable due to so many adjustable rate mortgages crippling previous homebuyers. Therefore, for the well-qualified investor, this just may be the perfect time to purchase real estate. Long term, fixed rates are lower than ever before. The price of credit is also extremely low right now.

Some people feel that purchasing a house that is ready to go into or is currently in foreclosure is a high risk. It very well may be. The bidder may have to wait as long as five months before the foreclosing banking institution accepts a bid lower than what is owed on the property – and mostly at this point in time – what is owed is far more than current market value. After potentially months of waiting, the bank may flatly reject the bid or counter – and more time is lost while ironing out details both parties eventually find suitable.

However, if you have the time to wait, it is well worth the gamble. In almost every town, nationwide, “FOR SALE” signs are popping up everywhere. Mortgage companies are been forced to sell their portfolios to competing mortgage firms or banks in order to stave off bankruptcy. Others are simply selling off the “bad paper” they invested in. Either way, the market savvy investor wins.

For those who are searching for that perfect home rather than simply an investment, the options and choices are nearly limitless. The well-qualified borrower has as many, if not more credit friendly loans waiting to be found.

The same time constraints may apply if one is looking at foreclosure properties, but again, if time is not of the essence, it is worth the wait. You may get lucky and have an answer in as little as a week. There are also things you can do ahead of time to show the seller you are serious about purchasing the property. Such things include: requesting a short sale, placing a respectable deposit into escrow upon submission of the offer, or not quibbling over closing costs or inspection fees.

For many – NOW is the perfect time to buy real estate!

This simple question is probably asked thousands of times every single day and can be answered in thousands of different ways. Long ago, I was given what I consider to be the best answer ever for that question! Whatever the best rate is, that a buyer can get at the time the deal is made that works for both parties. THAT is the best interest rate. When both parties come away from the table happy, that is what you call a great deal.

A perfect example of this is related below:
A couple was in the middle of a long divorce that was finally close to finalizing. The woman had not worked outside of the home in over thirty years, had no credit independent of her spouse and no income other than what was to be paid in spousal maintenance. She found the perfect home for herself and her companion dog. However, she had to make an offer while divorce was still pending. The woman’s financing options were worse than limited, they were nearly non-existent.

She purchased the home with an 11.99% APR (annual percentage rate), with a five year balloon payment of $10,000.00 with an additional $5,000.00 balloon payment every five years thereafter. However, the most critical item in the entire contract for the woman was the no pre-payment penalty clause. She knew that the contract would be renegotiated long before the first balloon payment was due.

Although she could have renegotiated the contract sooner, she waited for a full two years. During that time she built her own credit, made wise investment choices with her proceeds from the divorce settlement and proved to the bank that she was a good credit risk. At the time of the original loan, it was the best interest rate she could get to make a deal that was agreeable to both parties.

With the current mortgage market as it is, credit has never been cheaper for the well-qualified buyer and extremely expensive, if obtainable at all for the limited credit holder.

Therefore, it truly does not matter per se what the actual interest rate is for any particular deal on any particular day. What may be good to one person may be incomprehensible to another. What truly matters in the end is that each person comes away from the deal feeling that they got a good deal.

If you are looking for a new credit card deal you wont have to look far. The real trick is making sure that the benefits you get are good, and that the percentage rates are low.

When searching for your new credit card, keep in mind to look for these deals so you can get the benefits that will best cater to your specific needs. Some benefits to keep your eye out for is new cardholder incentives. This will work to your benefit well. Some card companies who offer this will let you make certain purchases without any interest at an extended period of time. With this you can buy items without having that worry in the back of your mind about your interest rate. Depending on whom you choose, this benefit can be offered from sixty days up to six months. Having this can save you a lot of money in the long haul.

You will also want to see what rewards program that your card comes with. These rewards vary for each company, but are mainly along the same lines. To get rewards you must use your card often. Some companies offer cash back, flight points, and many other rewards. If you do use your card frequently you will want to make sure your card comes with this.

A definite thing to check on is your cards interest rates. An interest rate is the annual percentage of the principal, which is calculated by dividing the amount of interest by the amount of the principal. The principal would be the amount borrowed.

Another aspect to look at is the annual fees. If the annual fees on your card are high, this card is definitely not worth your time. If you can come across a card with a low annual fee that includes these other great benefits, you should take this card into great consideration. Low annual fees would be something to highly consider if you don’t use your card very often, or for emergencies only. This way you aren’t paying a high cost for a card you’ll only use maybe once or twice.

Taking the time to find a good credit card may be a long road, but if you compare and research different cards and companies, it will be worth the money you will save in the long run. Just be sure to get the benefits that suit you and your personal expenses. For example, if you don’t use your card very often, rewards may not be that important to you personally.

So many children in the United States today, have credit cards. Legally. Minors under the age of 18 cannot enter into a contract without a co-signer. So who is co-signing with all these children? Their parents. Does your minor really need the credit card authorization?

Every parent has the ability of deciding if each child is responsible enough to have a credit card at a young age. The top reasons from parents that get their children a credit card with their child’s name on it is for emergencies, so children can go shopping, keep track of where they spend their allowances, and purchase items when they are out with friends.

Before you consider getting your child a credit card, you need to decide whether you think your child is of a responsible age and mature enough for this huge responsibility.
Getting your teenager a credit card is not a bad idea if you want to start teaching them about financial responsibilities. With that in mind, it would be wise to sit down with your minor and discuss the purpose of the credit card, set limits, and discuss how the monthly payments will be made in a timely manner. Your teenager needs to be aware that if they go out and spend past the credit limit, nothing else should be purchased or they will have additional over the credit limit fees applied to the monthly statement.
There is another alternative, rather than giving a credit card to your children to teach them about financial responsibilities. Instead of an interest-bearing credit card, you can get them a debit card.
Take you teenager down to the local bank and set them up a checking account with a debit card. This will teach them responsible spending as they earn their money, rather than spending, and paying for it later with interest. Parents have the benefit of being able to “direct deposit” their teenager’s allowance into their account so they have access to it.
If you have a younger child, a “Charge Card” would be the best kind of plastic for them. The payments on a charge card must be made in full every month, so that will teach your child that in order to be able to use the card they have to do their daily chores. They do not carry a balance from month to month with a charge card.

If you and your child decide to get a plastic card of any type, whether it is just the debit card, you need to make sure you read all the rules to every account with the companies. Some companies will restrict cards to minimum age groups; while other credit card companies will allow anyone that the co-signer allows, to have a secondary card. Debit cards are probably your best option for teaching your children financial responsibilities.

Once you get the card with your child’s name on it, don’t take it for granted that your child knows the financial responsibilities. Sit down and teach them the basics. Let them know it is very important not to lend their cards to anyone, not even their best friend. Once the monthly statement comes in, review it with your teen and explain what everything is. Compare the receipts against the charges. If you have chosen a credit card for your child, show them it is better to pay more than just the minimum payment. Not only do you want to show them how to use it, but also how it can affect their credit scores and how it will affect their life when they become adults.

Every credit card commercial shown these days boast about credit card perks. This one gives frequent flyer miles without blackout dates; another says you can choose between points, cash or other types of rewards. How does one determine which is really the best?

There are a number of issues to look at when you decide which credit cards to obtain and which ones to pass by. Consider the pros and cons of each before you make a decision. For a person who travels a great deal, the frequent flyer miles will probably rank fairly
high in the pros column. However, for someone who is a homebody and prefers to not fly or travel far from home, getting cash back on qualified purchases would probably ranker higher on the pros side of that list.

That brings up another question, what exactly is a qualified purchase? Does that mean that certain purchases do not qualify for cash back? How do you know the difference? Make sure that the term “qualified purchase” is clearly defined.

What other types of rewards are available? Can you switch back and forth between the various rewards that are offered and if so, at what expense?

In addition to these questions, prior to filling out that credit card application you may want to consider items such as; the annual fee, cash withdrawal fees, late fees, credit limit and the always important interest rate. In other words, will this particular credit card meet all of your personal needs or is another card better suited for your lifestyle?

Be sure you consider each item individually as well as collectively.

►	Annual Fees: These can range from $35.00 up into the $200.00 plus range.
Do you mind potentially paying $200.00 or more per year for the privilege of obtaining credit from this particular company?

►	Cash Withdrawal Fees: To discourage customers from doing this, the fees are usually rather high as is the interest rate on the amount withdrawn.

►	Late Fees: There are always late fees if your payment is late.
Not all credit card providers have the same length of time prior to charging this fee. Some do not charge the late fee until the payment is ten days late, others charge after just three days. Exactly how much is the late fee? Late fees can start as low as $28.00 or more frequently $36.00, others charge a percentage of your current balance. Make sure you know exactly how and when the late fee is calculated.

►	Credit Limit: Does the card offer you a credit limit that makes having the card an asset to you?

►	Interest Rate: Watch out for the introductory rates which are typically much lower than the actual interest rate once a short time period ends.

►	Frequent Flyer Miles: How are they earned, when are they paid and what types of blackout dates apply? It does no good to get great airline ticket prices if you cannot use them when you need them.

►	Cash Rewards vs. Points: What is the difference and can you switch between them at will, only once or not at all?

Ensure that you have asked yourself all of these questions, and determine which credit card company is going to best suit your needs. Remember, they are soliciting your business! Ask yourself if this company is worthy of receiving your business or if you should take it some place else.

For most lenders, bankers and others in the financial world, the first thing they say is no. Never do this as it is a dangerous practice. Under some circumstances, that may actually be the case. In others, maybe not.

A young person needed to establish credit. In order to do so he/she applied for one credit card with one of the companies that specialize in helping to establish or re-establish credit. Although the interest rate was significantly higher than what this young person was comfortable with, he/she decided it was the best option at the time.

As previously recommended, this young person opened a revolving credit line at a jewelry store that also specializes in helping people to establish credit. He/she also had a cell phone, automobile insurance and a monthly car payment to make. The automobile was difficult to obtain because this youngster had no prior credit.

This young college student decided at the time of the vehicle purchase, it was time to start creating a positive credit history. Paid twice a month, utility, rent, car, insurance and cell phone payments never coincided with due dates for the bills, which left this youngster always running a few days late on every payment.

Determining this was not a good system, he/she decided to make some changes. Every month he/she started paying everything except the rent with his/her new credit card. At the end of the month, one week prior to the due date, the balance on the credit card was paid in full. After two years of having this credit history showing everything paid on or before its due date, applying for a home loan was a breeze.

The reason some would think this is not a good idea is because many do not have the discipline necessary to use their credit cards in such a manner. Far too often, monthly bills only get paid by credit card when finances are tight or something such as illness or job loss deems it a necessary.

This young person also applied for a gas card. While unwise for most under the age of 25, he/she managed to never exceed his/her monthly budget for gas. Although he/she lived with the mantra of “if I can’t pay cash for it, I don’t buy it” finding this method of bill paying actually worked for his/her advantage. After two years of perfect credit, with three or four lines of credit open and nary a single late payment on anything, his/her credit rating was flawless.

This is a rare scenario for a person under the age of 21, but in this case, it was the right thing to do. It took diligence, determination and a will power not possessed by many, young or old. By the time this young person reached the age of 21, he/she owned his/her car, was purchasing a home rather than continuing to rent and had a credit score in the mid 800’s. He/She also set into motion a format for paying all of his/her bills on time, every month and without worrying about which bills fell due between paydays. In the two years that followed the purchase of his/her first home, this young man/lady had the credit limits raised on one of his/her credit cards and has gained enough reward points to take a trip to Hawaii. Not a bad result for something others told him/her was not a sound financial decision.

The number one crime in America today is identity theft. With the technology currently available, stealing another person’s identity is far simpler than the law-abiding citizen would ever consider.

Taking a few, easy, security precautions, you can significantly reduce your chances of becoming the next victim. Think about how you handle your junk mail. Many people do not consider it to be anything more than just that – junk – and quickly toss it into the trash. However, if that particular piece of mail is offering you any form of credit, throwing it into the trash is like handing a thief an open invitation. Some people feel comfortable simply tearing it in half before throwing it away. To reduce the risk of someone stealing the information and fraudulently obtaining credit in your name, shred the mail instead. It only takes a moment.

Never, never, ever throw away bank statements, credit card statements, medical statements of any other financial document into the trash without first shredding it. Shredders can be purchased for as little as $20.00, and should be your first defense against possible identity theft. Cross paper shredders run a little higher, but offer a higher degree of security. The difference between a regular shredder and cross shredding is the size and shape of the paper particles left in the shredding bin. The smaller the pieces, the less likely they are to be put back together. The idea after all is to make life difficult for a potential thief.

Another critical component to keeping your identity yours, is to turn your computer off when it is not in use. Some people leave their computers on all the time. From a security stand point that equates to leaving your house unlocked with all of your valuables plainly visible to every passer-by. This is especially true if you have wireless or cable internet, pay your bills on line or keep personal or business account numbers listed on your computer.

Many people pay their bills via the internet. The programs available for tracking home and business expenses make it much easier to keep up with budgeting and such. However, leaving this information unsecured is akin to posting it on the local bulletin board. No one would do such a thing, it is simply too dangerous. If you chose to pay bills online, simply ensure you have proper firewalls; intrusion alerts and use only secured internet sites for doing any online accounting or banking. It is never a good idea to leave account numbers or access codes on any computer.

In addition to shredding documents and basic internet safety the one thing that is probably the most important of all, is to keep track of your credit history. There are multiple companies that, for a small fee, will track your credit for you and notify you if there are any changes. Those changes include anyone, including yourself, applying for any type of credit in your name, or accessing your social security number for any reason.

Many of these types of services are available through your credit card companies. Read the fine print. See what is available and which services will best suit your needs.

Your good to excellent credit rating makes you a target. Taking these few simple steps to protect it could very well be the wisest investment you ever make.

Numerous credit card users have become more cautious about using their cards as apposed to past years. Most people refuse to sign the back of their credit cards. This is to try to reduce the chance of becoming a victim of credit card fraud. Many leave the signature line blank, while some write “See ID” on the back.

The purpose of not signing your credit card is so that a criminal cannot use your card when trying to purchase something. They won’t be able to produce a signature or I.D. that matches the front of the card. They would not even be able to try to forge your name, if it wasn’t on the back. If a person was to purchase something online or over the telephone, your signature does not matter. However, if they purchased it in the store, the clerk should ask the credit card provider for identification.

Although everyone has their own decisions whether to sign it or not, if you did sign the back of your card, there is always that possibility that a thief could use your signature to get other information.

If your choice is not to sign the back of your card with your name, then write “See ID” over the signature line so that the store clerk will ask you to provide them with a valid picture I.D. Your driver’s license is the best form of identification because not only does it have your name and a photo, it also has your signature. By leaving the line blank, the clerk should ask to see some proof of identification anyways.

So is it better to leave it unsigned, or just to sign it? Most store clerks don’t ask to see your I.D., or even flip the card over. Most stores today just have you slide your card through.

So, does it really benefit to sign the back of your credit cards?

Your credit card company will recommend that you sign the back of your card. According to them, a store clerk is not authorized to make a transaction on the credit card if they are not signed. Some store clerks might request that you sign it in their presence and then they will complete the transactions. Store clerks have the right to deny you from making the purchase without your signature on the back.

Honestly, how many clerks check the back of your credit cards when you are making a purchase? Even if you have or have not signed the back of the card, as a rule, they are supposed to be checking it, if they don’t, you are not protected.

Follow your card company’s recommendations and sign the back of your card to be safe. Just in case you were to lose your purse or credit card, you should not have a problem with someone else using your card as long as everyone else is also doing their job to help protect you.

In today’s time, credit card companies have become so advanced that you can even get your card with your photo I.D. on it for additional protection. It’s very rare that a thief that steals your card will be an identical twin.
